Sacred Ceremonies

In the Open Paths tradition
Highest quality sacrament

Sourced directly from our longtime and trusted partners in Brazil, true masters of their craft. Our relationship with them supports their ambitious environmental project to become more self sufficient. By cultivating the plants themselves, they avoid the exploitation of the Amazon Rainforest. This ensures a sustainable supply of our sacrament for decades to come.

Meaningful music
Facilitated with care and integrity
Physical and psychological safety

Our top priority is always for you to leave in better condition than you arrived, much better. When the goal is lasting transformation for every person who attends a Lumiar ceremony, then safety becomes an obvious necessity. Balanced male and female co-facilitation is provided. All participants are screened prior to registration for any contraindications that would prevent them from attending.

Our intention is to get out of the way as much as possible in order for you to develop a direct relationship with the sacrament. We provide the best setting for you to receive the most benefits. Our purpose is to serve you with care. Guidance and support are always available as needed. Ethical guidelines are adhered to. We have been serving in Northwest Washington since 2019.

Having clearly defined basic rules for the ceremony allows you to go through your process as needed. We find that excessive expectations and restrictions can inhibit people from releasing whatever is ready to come out. Knowing that you occupy a safe and grounded container makes it easier to fully explore the heights and depths of your journey. You are invited to be authentic and feel whatever you are feeling. There is no pressure to smile if you are processing sad memories.

Our mentor came from a tradition that originated in Brazil. He helped to create an innovative style of ceremony that is the foundation of our practice. The core of our initiation was caretaking for three consecutive winters for his isolated retreat center in the Atlantic Rainforest. As the learning never really ends, we also continue to attend workshops with his Dutch community every year.

Brazilian lineage and tradition
Freedom within structure

Continuing the pioneering ways of those who came before us, we provide a multi genre, multi cultural library of some of the finest musicians in the world. High quality recordings enhance the experience when combined with premium speakers. Songs are selected that are in tune and appropriate for the moment. Silent introspective breaks between songs are equally as important as the music. And yes, we also recognize the tradition and value of producing live sounds.

Dates

Planning your transformation

We typically offer during spring and fall seasons. Our next scheduled gatherings in 2026 will be:

April 17-20, May 1-4, May 22-25

Workshop Ingredients

Mother Nature

Our venue is located on a private, rural property surrounded by a fresh, green, vibrant forest. The tall, mature, conifer trees represent what the Pacific Northwest is well known for. Our guests are encouraged to hike on the neighboring trails before ceremony, and have the option to spend time in the magical yard during ceremony.

In addition to the actual ceremonies, which form the core of our workshops, here are some of the amenities included during our weekends together
Peaceful Temple

Our venue has been used exclusively for hosting small gatherings focused on wellness and spirituality for the past 30+ years. This includes classes and events such as yoga, meditation, sound bath, and ceremony. The solid construction, octagonal design, and natural art provide a sense of security and comfort.

Intimate Size

The maximum capacity of our venue is twelve participants and two facilitators. Smaller ceremonies help avoid excessive chaotic energies that people sometimes report in larger gatherings. Those who are empathic or extra sensitive will appreciate the smaller size. This ensures that everyone knows each other by name and increases the ability to connect.

No Rush

Participants arrive at 1pm and also depart around 1pm on their final day. Having full 24 hour days gives you a chance to slow down from your busy schedules. We invite you to turn off your phone while we are together if you wish to have a digital fast. The intention is to feel like a retreat from our modern, high tech, fast paced world.

Clean Food
Sharing Circles

Healthy, organic food that is compatible with this work will be provided. This reduces the planning, shopping, packing, preparing, and cleaning, which allows you to focus more on your experience. Please inform us of any food allergies beforehand. There is a full kitchen available, and you may also bring food if you prefer.

We always start with an introductory circle to better know our neighbors and what intentions they have for attending. The morning after we share the highlights of the ceremony, the challenges, the insights received, and hear how our experience compared and contrasted to others.

South Whidbey

While enjoying the calm and beauty of the island it’s easy to forget that a short twenty minute ferry ride away there are nearly five million people. Bald eagles, owls, coyotes, seals, orcas and whales are some of the animals often seen and heard around here. We recommend arriving early and/or staying longer to rent an Airbnb in the area if your schedule allows.

Sangha

Goiás, Brazil.

This is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded souls. Yet there is no pressure to be social. Eat breakfast in silence if that’s how you feel. Either way is fine. In the words of our mentor Norberto, most trauma is caused by human interaction gone wrong, and healing occurs through the combination of our medicine and human interaction gone right.

Multiple Nights

To receive the most benefits

We come from a tradition where three consecutive nights is standard, even for beginners. The more time spent together in nurturing community, on the medicine, away from the stresses and responsibilities of society, the greater the benefits. People typically lower their defenses much faster than in normal social situations. Feelings of empathy increase and connections with your neighbors develop as you go through this unique experience together. The most bonding happens when you commit to the full immersion.

You have the option to choose two or three nights. Single nights are only available in limited situations.

On the first day everything is new for beginners. We view it as the introduction, a warmup for the nights to come. On the second day any nervousness dissipates as the unknown becomes known. This is your opportunity to do the most deep inner work. The third day is the reward for completing your process. It can be a lighter time for joy and celebration.
